Traveler
When I entered “Traveler” in the Minnesota State Fair and the lady taking down my info asked me what shape it was, I froze and then I blurted out “interdimensional jellyfish?”.
“Traveler” was the first of my large scale explorations into pure geometry, and it began the pattern of science-fiction flavoring these pieces would have. The names of all these pieces are afterthoughts, as I look at what I’ve made and try to decipher what it could mean. When I looked at “Traveler”, I thought about the idea of a space faring species, and wondered if the sculpture represented a ship or a creature.
“Traveler” ended up winning 1st Place at the MN State Fair in the 2018 “3D Beadwork” category.
“Traveler”, 2018. 7” x 8” x 8”. Seed beads, wire, glass rounds, agate, jasper, monofilament.
