Petals
This piece began life as a single panel. Originally intended as a pendant, I wanted to see what would happen if I sewed multiple panels together in ascending size. Over a period of months the single panel became several, and I eventually hit upon the idea to join them together with beaded hinges. “Petals” is now a lightweight collar style necklace composed of beaded plates and frames. It drapes easily, thanks to the articulation of the hinges, and is held by a magnetic clasp.
The necklace weighs 50 grams or a little less than 2 oz. The inner circumference is 15”, the outer is 25”, and the necklace is 3” across at the widest. This is a one of a kind work of art.
