Apple Tree Fidget
Although I grew up in an area that’s well known for cherry blossoms, I’ve always looked forward to apple blossoms in particular. They always seemed more delicate and rare to me, and I liked how wild apple trees looked in comparison (granted, I didn’t see an apple orchard until I was 34). This sculpture shows the image of an apple tree through the seasons as its four faces rotate.
This sculpture is a type of fidget or machine called a kaleidocycle. It’s essentially six pyramids joined together in a ring by hinges. The hinges rotate into the center of the ring to show four unique designs. This particular cycle is pocket sized, about 2.5” across. It is one of a kind.
